However, to use this as your sole protection? As I wrote in my review, the freeware version deleted an important file from my PaintShop Pro program. Threat scan is the most effective. The free edition allows only system scanning and does not offer real-time protection against the threats. Waste of time and money.

Malwarebytes Free

After the day trial expires, Malwarebytes reverts to a free version without the full real-time protection. The more modern design is also an improvement -- larger boxes, fewer tabs, touch-friendly buttons, and adaptive windows. The program tucks nicely into your system tray when not in use and feels sleeker overall.

Access managers, automatic schedulers, exclusion options, and other utilities are still available, tucked away in the Settings tab. Malwarebytes tweaked the user flow to improve protection. Prior to running a scan, Anti-Malware 2. And while infected computers sometimes block anti-malware apps, Malwarebytes' Chameleon tech stubbornly gets Anti-Malware installed and running, whether or not the PC has malicious programs on it.

Although existing Lifetime owners will be grandfathered in, new users who want the premium version must get an annual subscription. However, the free version will still exist for all users. The visual refresh, interface tweaks, and inclusion of built-in rootkit detection make it a more modern competitor.

While the subscription model may not be for everyone, it's becoming a more widely accepted standard for many security programs. Protects you from advanced zero-day threats, including ransomware, so you can surf the Web without worry Removes all traces of malware for complete safety Removes potentially unwanted programs PUPs that make your computer run poorly Scans fast so you don't have to sit around and wait for your security to finish working Easy to use, just set it and forget it Can replace antivirus or run alongside other antivirus programs screenshots User Reviews Current Version.

I don't know where to start. I run it on my Windows 10 "play" computer, and on my Windows 7 work computer. Both OS's give no end of problems. Keeps turning itself off. Real time protection keeps turning off. Auto updates don't work. Notifications are endless and "whiny", constantly. I have the full paid lifetime membership, and I have to run the cleaner they offer to remove it, and reinstalled it dozens of times to fix a bug. In Win 10, the old version 2 keeps starting up on reboot, so 2 and 3 run at the same time.

In 7, I doubt if it even works. Not to mention the toxic update that came out not long ago, that ate up all the RAM and bricked the computers. I guess it would be fine as a malware backup scanner, for stuff that isn't an actual virus. However, to use this as your sole protection? It's buggy, annoying, unreliable, none fo the features work and it's endless reinstalls to try and make it work. Waste of time and money.

Was this review helpful? My opinion - As soon as Malwarebytes free trial expired and it started giving me notifications that it was expired, I now have a problem where if I click a "like" on an article or try to comment, a pop up window opens and closes unendingly -- I believe this was put on my computer to start when the free trial was up.

Very accurate, and fast. Running a scan doesn't take all day, and the software is totally intuitive. I received a ransomware email which was very disturbing. I contacted Malwarebytes support website, and Maurice answered quickly, and stayed with me on how to be certain there was no malware on my computer. I do have the Premium and recommend it highly as an addition to your regular antivirus software.

Ransomware is getting worse every day, and the added security is worth the price for safety. I started with the free to try premium and they terminated it to use the free version. Either way, the pop up notifications about out of date definitions are endless.

I needed to make a fifteen minute presentation to a client. Within the fifiteen minute period, I received 5 pop up notifications that my definitions were out of date and needed to be updated. I tried turning off anything having to do with notifications under settings. I downgraded to the free program with no real time protection. I even disconnected from the internet.

Nothing stops the nofications. Practically, every few minutes a new one appears. I've been using the premium version for a couple of years and I used to like it. Now comes the time for it to renew and one of my licenses is hidden from my account so I can't make any credit card or address changes.

Malwarebytes is of no help and they only passed the buck to Cleverbridge who can't help me because they don't show that license either. I suspect somebody at MB screwed up and deleted it from my account and are now covering it up, but they didn't seem to have a problem renewing it when I wanted to cancel the auto renew. I'm looking to dump MB permanently and do not recommend anybody get the premium version if the company cannot fix their internal issues first.

I'm already put them on notice. I had it for almost 9 month. Last week I got malware that ruined my pc blue screen , while my premium malwarebyte was running. I do not recommend it.

No number a human to talk with. If you have an issue they do nothing. The product sucks and really conflicted with other programs on my computer. I have to remove it from my computer 2 weeks after purchasing it. Also 1 year later they automatically bill your credit card for a 2nd year then they fight you when you ask for your money back.

A very terrible company and product! Downloaded this mainly to remove the bs comet. Sure it scans, the same as any other "malware" software, but basically ends there.

Only allowing a quarantine of alleged infections or warning, but won't activate the actual Web protection until actual purchase. I have a legacy license which never expires. Several days ago, my old computer crashed.

Malwarebytes refuses to activate the license on the new one. I've contacted tech support via email several times, but all they do is issue ticket numbers and never respond with "how to" or other instructions. They respond with total silence. I'm angry because this incredible product is annoying the piss out of me.

It should remember this and not constantly ask me upon every start up. I'm uninstalling this product and looking for an alternative, which pisses me off more because of how good the product is.

As I wrote in my review, the freeware version deleted an important file from my PaintShop Pro program. My worry about downloading and using Malwarebytes is that it might inadvertently remove a file critical to my operating system. If you get an email eluding to something you've done on your computer, then YES. If you have Windows, go to task manager, go to the Processes tab and read every line. Look for a suspicious process unsigned running on your computer.

Google Search anything you don't understand, or are unfamiliar with. MalwareBytes is installing Windows 10 files in to incompatible Systems. I had all the similar problems as you 2 years ago, the company was going through a complete change over, don't drop this company as they are the tops in the country for what they do, I can send you the company Techs e-mails to me that walked me through the very same problems and she fixed it, yea, I know, been to the "India" thing too, you don't need to go there trust me on that one, stay clear of that.

However, when attempting to do so an error msg says the update version will be incompatible with what the version I am using.

What is going on? I had a poweliks InfectionThought we had it fixed I did, and now, I cant get on my e-mail to communicate with them What can I do? For the purposes of this review, three infected files were purposely downloaded. The program detected all three of them without issue, and did so in a routine threat scan that was initiated manually.

Malwarebytes Premium also features a hyper scan that runs in a matter of minutes and alerts users if any largescale issues or out-of-the-ordinary results are found, so that a full threat scan can be ran. Additionally, the software includes a custom-scan ability that allows users to target specific areas of systems that may be infected with malware. Finally, scans can be scheduled for a set time of the day or night , thereby removing the burden of initiating malware checks manually.

The process is simple: In this way, pesky malware can be rendered ineffective, and additionally, can be set aside for inspection at a later time perhaps by a computer professional. Custom scans, the Quarantine Chest, scan reports, and additional settings can all be reached from this dashboard with a simple click.

The depth of this settings section cannot be understated.
